Interwoven: Sand Dollar Island - Hunt for the Good with Your Family

The Station Foundation invites you to experience the well kept secrets of Bird Shoals Island while reconnecting and hunting for the good in your relationship.

Research suggests that people often feel positive emotions when in nature, and taking time to acknowledge these feelings can strengthen them. Research by relationship expert Dr. John Gottman also shows that when you acknowledge and openly discuss positive aspects of your partner and your marriage, your bond is strengthened. We will practice this as we enjoy the beauty of nature at Sand Dollar Island.

Sand Dollar Island is a sandbar that offers the best hunting grounds for sand dollars. Located between Bird Shoal and Shackleford Banks, the shallow tidal pools surrounding the sandbar offer a safe swimming environment and excellent snorkeling opportunities.

Workshop Prerequisite - Hunting for the Good

In a journal or on a piece of paper, each family member (kids included) will write down at least one positive comment about each of the other family members from Monday, May 20 - May 26. Record these positive sentiments and things that you appreciate about their character, things they did around the house or to support you, etc. Do not share your lists with one another. You will bring this list to the event and there will be an opportunity to share with your family members.

2:45pm - Ready to board ferry for Sand Dollar Island

3:20pm - Arrive Sand Dollar Island

4:45pm - Depart from Sand Dollar Island

Event Details:

• Please Bring: a backpack, a sunscreen, bathing suit, towel, water bottle, the answers to your questions.
• We will be boarding a boat ferry from Island Ferry Adventures in Beaufort, NC to Bird Shoals.
• There are public restrooms within walking distance of the picnic area.
