Overview

Join botanist Julia Prins on a guided hike to discover and identify numerous wildflowers around Lula Lake's Core Preserve property!

About the hike: This moderate hike is approximately a 3.5 mile loop on our beautiful Core Preserve property, which will be closed to the public. We will begin by meeting in the meadow and climbing Middle Trail to reach a stunning view of the Bluff Overlook. After that, we'll head to the overlook of the stunning 110-foot Lula Falls. Along the way, we'll stop to encounter mountain laurel, fire pink, little brown jug, Carolina sweetshrub, Mountain Azalea and many other native wildflowers and learn about their natural history and cultural significance.

About the guide: Julia Prins is a botanist for the Tennessee Valley Authority. She gained her knowledge on the identification and ecology of Tennessee plants through a masters degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a focus in botany where she studied under Dr. Joey Shaw and completed several research projects related to TN's flora.
