Agenda • How does the Internet work? What is www? • Understanding protocols: What is HTTP and DNS ? • How does HTTP function? • What is client-server-architecture? • Understanding the structure of the website • How does a web-page actually load? • How can I open a website? Understanding domains and hosting?
Learning outcomes • Understand what happens to the internet • How does browser load a website? • Register and host my own website and control it.

Required • <A HREF="https://www.charlesproxy.com/download/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Charles Proxy</A> – This is paid, but we only need to use the trial to better understand. So please download this and keep ready. • <A HREF="https://www.digwebinterface.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">digwebinterface</A> – This is just FYI. We will use this a little bit.
 
No-Show Policy To improve management and turn-around of dorkShops for the organising team, benefit of other students attending and especially the teachers who put in a lot of hardwork to host a dorkShop, we are announcing a “No-Show Policy” where, students must register on <A HREF="http://dorkshopnyc.eventbrite.com/" TARGET="_blank" REL="noopener noreferrer">Eventbrite</A> and their registratons will be noted down. Failure to attend after registration, will be checked and barred from further dorkShops as per due discretion by the dorkShop team and faculty.
Therefore, please register only if you are sure to come.
