Intermediate Python (Chicago)
Learn must-know skills and useful tips to use Python effectively.
This workshop lasts three days, each day 9:30am - 4pm. Attending every day is important.
Once you’re comfortable with the basics of programming in Python, you will start to wonder what you should learn next. This three-day workshop teaches a curated menu of must-know skills and our favorite tips and tricks. On day one, we’ll cover working with data shaped in rows and columns with the pandas package, as well as techniques for troubleshooting your code. Day two brings the fundamentals of data visualization with matplotlib. In the afternoon, we’ll step out of the notebooks and learn how to run, write, and import our own Python scripts. Day three starts with a lesson on environments, followed by a lesson on the best Python shortcut of all, the skill that separates Python beginners from true Pythonistas (yes, that’s what we’re called): list comprehensions.
Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Python.
Event details: This workshop is held in person; there is no hybrid option or recording available. This is an interactive, hands-on workshop; participants are required to bring their laptop and charger.
Attendees: Members of the Northwestern community with an active Northwestern NetID as of the date of the workshop are eligible to attend. Registrations made by those without an active NetID may be cancelled. If you will be at Northwestern this summer, but do not yet have a NetID, please register but email nuit_rcds@northwestern.edu to let us know of the situation.
Cancellation: Limited spots are available for this in-person workshop. If your availability changes, cancel your registration as soon as possible.
