Intermediate Motivational Interviewing

Dr. Kate Watson is the Founder and President of the Advocacy Academy.  She holds a doctorate in Health Policy and Social Justice from Drexel University, a graduate degree in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University, and an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Towson University.  Dr. Watson sits on the Board of Directors for the Lady Parts Collection, a Los Angeles-based theater company focused on theatrical works relevant to women.  She is a Director Emeritus for the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.  Dr. Watson trains over 2,000 thousand people each year, including individuals from 20 states and 8 countries, the NFL, the Department of Defense, and several major television networks.

Participants are expected to arrive prepared to practice the skills that were learned in the introductory level training. If you are already comfortable with the following concepts, you are probably ready for the intermediate level:<ul><li>Ambivalence</li><li>Change Talk and Sustain Talk</li><li>Righting Reflex</li><li>Spirit of MI</li><li>OARS</li></ul>During this workshop, participants will learn how the concepts listed above fit into the “Four Processes” model, which was introduced to Motivational Interviewing beginning in 2013 (Miller and Rollnick, 2013). A lengthy amount of time is also dedicated to exploring (and reimagining) the concept of resistance.Outcomes.By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:<ol><li>Evoke change talk</li><li>List 7 types of change talk </li><li>Define discord </li><li>Demonstrate how to navigate a conversation through the four processes: engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning. </li></ol>This ticket is not refundable, nor transferable, unless cancelled by the organizer. Participants may not request admission to a future event with this ticket. If the event is cancelled, ticket fees will be refunded.Although this webinar is not pre-approved for continuing education credit through any particular accrediting body, most participants who are interested in CEUs are able to obtain them by submitting proof of attendance to their professional licensing and credentialing boards.
