About this event

Join us for an exciting opportunity to learn and play chess in a unique intergenerational setting! In collaboration with the DC State Chess Federation, the CAUSES Urban Youth Education and Resource Development Program invites homeschooled high school students and seniors aged 55 and above to participate in our research project.

Our program, conducted via Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., aims to enhance cognitive functioning and combat memory loss through engaging chess activities. In this intergenerational initiative, high school students will learn chess and have the chance to teach seniors the game. Throughout the program, we'll assess cognitive functioning to explore the potential benefits of chess on mental acuity.

Beyond the cognitive benefits, this program fosters meaningful connections between generations. Seniors bring valuable insights to our young learners, contributing to character development and providing encouragement. If you're a homeschooled high school student looking to explore the world of chess or a senior eager to learn and connect, this program is a perfect fit.

Whether you're seeking social interaction, a break from the pandemic-induced isolation, or simply enjoying the game of chess, we invite you to join us. Embrace the joy of learning, the camaraderie of chess, and the shared experience of intergenerational connection. Don't miss out – sign up today!
