intergalactic improvisations

Overview

a dance and movement improvisation workshop with Bhumi Patel at The SANCTUARY

Join pateldanceworks for an improv-based movement class that offers space for individual and group engagement with imagery-based refusal and anti-urgency as a way to realize different ways of being in and relating to this world and worlds beyond. We play, we dream, we imagine, and we travel with Lola Olufemi's concept of "imagining otherwise" alongside Heather Love's provocation for a queer method of "feeling backward" to we meet past, present, and future simultaneously. This practice it makes what Anna Tsing calls “the impossible present, this time of rupture, a world haunted with the threat of extinction” more bearable. Class begins with a gentle warmup, then goes into improvisational practices of connection with others in the room, self-nourishment, and closes with a departure practice. No movement experience required, just a willingness for presence together.
