Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Complex (ISEC) Building Tour

Built Environment Plus, formerly known as USGBC MA, is a membership-based community advocating for green buildings at the state and local level. Built Environment Plus provides green building education, networking, advocacy and leadership opportunities for the sustainable building community and beyond. Our events and programming are supported by the volunteer efforts of our community members.Over 550 people participate as members & active volunteers, and over 14000 people subscribe to our various communication lists. Through our many committees, we address all aspects of the greening of the real estate sector - from planning, design & engineering, construction, management & operation and beyond. We help all practitioners by promoting market transformation. You can join us and be a part of this massive effort to improve the built environment.

Built Environment Plus

<DIV>The new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) on Northeastern University's campus has integration at the heart of its design.  The building and the surrounding landscape promote a sense of fluidity and connectivity, from the iconic sun shading finned facade to the spiraling steel staircase in the center of the six-story atrium.  The motivation behind the ISEC's design is "enabling the fortuitous collisions, conversations, and collaborations that break down disciplinary divides" and there is still more to come, with an arching bridge spanning over the MBTA tracks connecting the ISEC to the main campus.</DIV>

<DIV>Not only does it look good, but the 220,000 sf complex saves 50% of the energy a baseline building uses, 40% water reduction and 75% of the construction waste was diverted to the land fills.</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>There's something unique around every curve!</DIV>
<P>The tour will highlight mechanical and design systems which contribute to the high-performance building attributes. </P>
<P>Networking happens during the tour and after the tour as most groups converge for a quick bite or drink after the conclusion of the 90 min tour. </P>
<P>Directions:</P>
<P><SPAN>The ISEC building is located at approximately 795 Columbus Ave, adjacent to the Columbus parking garage. Visitors can find free street parking along Columbus Ave or can pay for public parking in the Renaissance Garage located at 835 Columbus Ave. </SPAN></P>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>The ISEC is also easily accessible by the Orange Line from the Ruggles T Station. If arriving from Huntington Ave or the Green Line, visitors will need to walk down Forsyth Street and cross through the Ruggles Station to access Columbus Ave. The main entrance to the building is from Columbus Ave. </DIV>

<DIV>Please note, only students and faculty with a valid parking permit will be able to park in the Columbus parking garage.</DIV>
