Chicago Innovation Tech 2022 seeks to bring and create a pipeline of innovation, research, and start-ups with focus on solving and promoting innovation in the architecture, engineering, construction and operation industry (AECO). This event is a multidisciplinary collaboration of local design technologists , engineers, designers and technology enthusiasts practicing in the AEC industry. We believe this event has the potential to foster innovation and create local incubators in the area. We see this symposium and masterclass as the first steps to a new discourse in technology and innovation in the Chicago area.

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have collaboratively evolved expertise and proprietary technologies at the intersection of spatial user-experience, interaction, and design with computational technologies of algorithmic 3D geometry creation, game3D &amp; MMO, and user-analytics. A so-called Spatial Technology Stack (STS), that is aligned with the Architectural Geometry, computer graphics and game industry is helping us at ZHA to deliver projects which draw from historical wisdom and provide Integrated design, construction and ecological benefits.This course overviews an introduction to such a collaborative multi author AEC workflows across multiple software platforms like Autodesk Maya, McNeel Rhinoceros and NVIDIA Omniverse, powered by STS and Open USD. This workshop will offer participants hands-on exploration of custom collaborative design and data visualisations workflows built using Open USD. After the demonstration, participants will gain insights into how such workflows are used at Zaha Hadid Architects to deliver projects ranging from pavilion scale to masterplans. Workshop Team: The team from the Computation and Design Research group at Zaha Hadid Architects Computation and Design Group (ZHA CODE):Taizhong ChenTaizhong Chen is a Senior Designer at Zaha Hadid Architects' Computation and Design group (ZHA CODE). Since joining ZHA, he has contributed to diverse projects including technology demonstrators, metaverse and built projects. Specialising in computational geometry and robotic fabrication for architecture, he develops design toolsets to deliver structurally optimised and fabrication efficient architectural projects. His research bridges early stages of design to construction, with focus on form-finding, analytics, parametric geometry generation and its optimisation and coordination.Taizhong completed his Master’s degree at the Architectural Association Design Research Lab in 2019. He is an active participant in academic forums, teaching and presenting at international workshops and CAD conferences. He previously worked at Ai SpaceFactory, where he developed research in on-site autonomous construction. Christoph GeigerChristoph is a Research Assistant for Computation &amp; Design at Zaha Hadid Architects. He joined the practice as part of the Analytics and Insights (ZH A+I) and team the Computation and Design group (ZHA CODE). In this role, he is responsible for developing and maintaining a computational framework for evaluating and comparing spatial layouts and for improving internal work- and dataflows. Besides this Christoph's research interests extend to generative deep learning. Recently, he has focused on building user interfaces and workflows for better integrations of large pretrained text-to-image latent diffusion models into architectural software and finetuning these models for the company's needs.Christoph studied in Istanbul, Tokyo and Stuttgart where he completed his master at the State Academy of Arts in Stuttgart. He is also teaching as a skill module tutor at the B-Pro program at the University College of London (UCL). Vishu BhooshanVishu is an Associate at Zaha Hadid Architects, where he co-administers the Computation and Design group (ZHA CODE). He leads the development of a state-of-the-art, proprietary computational code framework to synthesize high-performance geometries and consequently enables their structural optimisation, parametric modelling and coordination. Since joining Zaha Hadid Architects, he has been involved in several design competitions and commissions ranging from technology demonstrators, products, galleries, stadiums, metro stations, residential buildings, masterplans etc. to designing for the metaverse and gaming industry.Vishu, a master’s graduate from Architectural Association Design Research Lab, is also a Lecturer at Architectural Computation, University College of London (UCL).
