Overview

A Creative Re-Use Workshop

Tompkins Corners Cultural Center invites the community to explore the art of sustainable printmaking in Intaglio Printmaking: A Creative Re-Use Workshop with artist and educator Denise Leaden.

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to an eco-friendly intaglio (engraving) printmaking technique that transforms recycled cartons—such as chicken broth and milk containers—into etching plates for creating richly textured fine art prints. Using an etching tool, participants will carve original designs into the shiny plastic-coated surface of the carton. The plates will then be inked, carefully wiped, and printed onto dampened paper using a repurposed Sizzix die-cutting machine converted into a manual printing press.

Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn a creative process that combines artistic expression with environmental awareness.

Denise Leaden brings years of experience as an art educator and workshop facilitator, working across a variety of media. Her workshops emphasize creativity, experimentation, and hands-on learning in a welcoming environment. She has led community arts programs, school workshops, museum activities, and private events, inspiring participants of all ages to explore new techniques and materials.

Join us for a morning of creativity, discovery, and sustainable artmaking.

Advance registration is required. Limited to eight students.

This workshop is supported by a grant from the Anne Anastasi Family Foundation, facilitated by Putnam Valley residents Jonathan Galente and Mary Beth Minton.
