Inside Baseball: Baseball Collections as Data

Join JSTOR Labs, Library of Congress, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture for the final inning of “Inside Baseball,” a week of design-thinking and flash-building tools for exploring online baseball collections! On Friday, July 13th, we’ll showcase what we made, and host a data-driven panel discussion featuring ESPN’s Clinton Yates, mathematician Jordan Ellenberg, and baseball historian Rob Ruck.

CLINTON YATES – Clinton Yates is a radio host, commentator, and columnist for ESPN's The Undefeated and a Washington Post alumnus. A D.C. native, Yates’ work examines the intersections between pop culture, politics, race, and athletics in contemporary American life.
 
ROB RUCK – Rob Ruck is a sports historian and professor at the University of Pittsburgh, whose research traces the dynamics of race in Major League Baseball. Recognized as an authority on the history of the Negro Leagues and Latinos in baseball, Ruck’s recent publications include the 2011 book “Raceball: How the Major Leagues Colonized the Black and Latin Game.”
 
JORDAN ELLENBERG – Mathematician and author Jordan Ellenberg utilizes math to uncover the hidden patterns that guide our daily lives. A professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ellenberg’s book “How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking” is a New York Times Best-Seller, and one of Bill Gate’s ten favorite books.
