Styles of Indian Whiskey
Low End Whisky - The bottom shelf Indian whiskey is produced from molasses or sugarcane and does not meet the standard definition of whisky (i.e produced from grain). This is made for the Indian home market as cheap, accessible product for the masses.
Grain whisky - Made of a mixture of grains (barley and other grains)
Blended Whiskey - Made from a blend of whiskies that may include Scotch Whisky, Indian Malt Whiskey and Indian Molasses whiskey. (Royal Challenge Brand, Blenders Pride, Officers Choice)
Single Malt Whiskey - Made from 100% malted barley from a single distillery. The barley may be imported european barley, locally (Indian) grown barley or both. Typically Indian barley is six-row barley and is grown in the Himalayan foothills (Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand).
