Overview:

The Incident Planning Workshop is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively plan and manage search and rescue operations. Over the course of two days, participants will delve into the intricacies of Incident Action Planning (IAP), gain proficiency in utilizing SARTopo mapping software, and learn how to seamlessly integrate IAPs into the Web Mission Information Reporting System (WMIRS).

Day 1:

  • Introduction to Incident Action Planning (IAP) principles and components
  • Understanding the Incident Command System (ICS) structure and roles
  • Hands-on workshops for IAP generation, including scenario-based exercises
  • SARTopo orientation: Introduction to SARTopo mapping software and its application in SAR operations
  • Practical exercises using SARTopo for incident visualization and planning

Day 2:

  • Review and refinement of IAP generation skills
  • Workshops on integrating IAPs into the Web Mission Information Reporting System (WMIRS)
  • Practical exercises on creating, modifying, and sharing IAPs within WMIRS
  • Final review and Q&A session

Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in SAR incident planning, including IAP development, SARTopo utilization, and WMIRS integration, essential for effective search and rescue operations.

Prerequisites:

  • Member should be a minimum of 17 years old.
  • Member should have completed Branch Director qualification or higher.
  • Preferably Section Chief Trainee or Qualified.
  • Preferably ICS 300 complete.
