In Their Shoes: Activity and Conversation around Dating Violence and Healthy Relationships

All teens (13-18 years old) are welcome to join HopeWorks' Youth Leaders for this event!

HopeWorks' Youth Leadership Project is hosting an interactive workshop to help their peers explore and learn more of the elements that different relationships hold. Dating violence is more common than people think, especially among teens and young adults: one in three teens in the US will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before they become adults, and nearly half (43%) of college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors.

In this interactive workshop, participants become one of six characters based on the experiences of real teens. They make choices about the character’s relationship and move through scenarios by reading about interactions with their character’s dating partner, family, friends, and others. The activity is followed by a debriefing discussion on dating violence. This TDVAM, join HopeWorks' Youth Leaders as they reflect upon the elements of the different relationships that may surround us. The Youth Leaders will also be utilizing the later half of this workshop to highlight what healthy relationships look and feel like, and will close with an introduction of their Healthy Relationships Zine and Media Representation Zine!
