About this event
The story of Hispanics in New Orleans has been one of dreams and accomplishments. The new "In Da Parish" photo exhibition traces the path of so many who now call New Orleans and the surrounding areas home. Chronicled by New Orleans photographers Cheryl Gerber and Lucas Barrios, the photography is an exhibit of the passion that has energized so many for generations.
After a brief presentation about the exhibit and remarks from local Latino leaders and other special guests, we will go into the theater to enjoy a sneak preview of several select scenes from In the Heights.
In the Heights is a Tony Award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) and book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. The story is set in the largely Dominican American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. This 2005 musical combines Latin rhythms and dance with hip-hop lyrics to tell a captivating story about what it means to chase your dreams as you cling to your roots. Conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by New Orleans native Michelle Pietri.
