Event description
What is Biochar? How does it help your plants? How does it help the world? Learn all about it at this outdoor event in the garden.

About this Event

At this event you will learn how this charcoal-like substance or “Biochar” can mitigate climate change, improve soil quality and reduce waste. Cool Terra will bring free samples of their product to share with all whom attend. No items for purchase. This is for information only! RSVP’s are appreciated. Children are welcome.

Biochar is growing in usage across segments of horticulture, agriculture, and landscape. Learn about biochar, its history and production, and explore the many ways biochar is used today. This lecture will focus on how biochar, like Cool Terra Organic, provides critical habitat for beneficial microbes and helps soils retain water while delaying nutrient leaching. Cool Terra improves soil structure in containers, native soils and raised beds, and can be used to improve rooting and establishment for a range of plant types. Cool Terra is a certified organic soil amendment that brings long-term carbon back into soils for increased carbon sequestration.

Andrea Melnychenko is a plant biologist who has been working in the horticultural field for 18 years. As an Account Manager for the Turf, Nursery and Ornamental divisions of Cool Planet on the West Coast, Andrea's work focuses on exploring new markets and innovative applications for biochar with a broad range of users in the green industry.
