Improv Workshop - James Quesada

Improv Workshop - James Quesada

Grove 34Queens, NY
Monday, Mar 23 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm
Overview

Take an improv workshop with James Quesada at Grove 34 in Astoria Queens.

THE WORKSHOP

ELEVATE YOUR SCENES - This workshop focuses on the building blocks of great improv scene work: connecting with your scene partner, having strong stage presence, and establishing the who, what, and where. By removing the pressure to chase laughs, we’ll focus on the essential improv skills that make scenes clear, engaging, and easy to build on.

From that foundation, we’ll explore comedy that comes from mixing bold choices with believable acting. Too much ‘bold’ can lead to scenes that are chaotic, disconnected, or obnoxious. Too much ‘believable’ and the scenes might be boring, predictable, or just no fun. But when you balance the two, you get improv scenes that are surprising and relatable, playful and three-dimensional.

This workshop is open to all experience levels.

THE INSTRUCTOR

James Quesada is an improviser and comedy producer based right here in Astoria and a co-owner of Grove 34 Comedy Club. He’s been performing improv since 2009, teaching since 2012, and has been featured in over a dozen festivals across the country, including LA, Chicago, Detroit, NYC and many places in between. You can catch him every Sunday at Grove’s Improv Night with the Host Team, or see him spouting improv philosophy on his YouTube channel, Improv FAQ.
