Join us for our Improv 201 class where we take a deeper dive into scene work and learn the basic skills it takes to build the perfect scene.

So, you’ve had a taste of that sweet, delicious improvised comedy, and you’re ready for more. Good news, you little sugar fiend: we’ve got your fix. Join us for our Improv 201 class where we take a deeper dive into scene work and learn the basic skills it takes to build the perfect scene.

Class Session: Saturday and Sunday, 11/1 - 11/2/2025, 10 AM - 5 PM both days

Prerequisites: Completing our Improv 101 class is recommended but not required. Students should have a knowledge of improv fundamentals.

During this class, students will learn to:

Review foundational/basic improv skills learned in Improv 101

Understand best practices regarding boundaries and consent when improvising onstage and observe “ouch, oops”

Incorporate storytelling tools and story structure into scenes

Practice radical listening and staying present in scenes to provide support

Implement different types of support onstage during scenes

Create specific scenes by identifying the “who, what, where, and why” of each scene

Do basic pantomime/space work in scenes

Establish and raise the stakes on scenes to keep the audience engaged

Prepare for our next class level, Improv 301: Advanced Scene Study

Class schedule:

DAY 1:
10 AM – 1 PM: Part
1 PM – 2 PM: Lunch
2 PM – 5 PM: Part 2
There will 5 minute breaks every hour

DAY 2:
10 AM – 1 PM: Part 3
1 PM – 2 PM: Lunch
2 PM – 5 PM: Part 4

There will 5 minute breaks every hour

Important Details:

Tuition is nonrefundable. You must be at least 18 to register.

Parking:

Metered parking and free 2 hour street parking is available near the venue.

Accessibility and Comfort:

Seats will be provided both onstage and off, and we are happy to accommodate any requests to sit or take additional breaks for those who need them. Please let us know if you'll be needing any other accommodations and we will work to accommodate you as best as possible! The bathroom is on the second floor with a wheelchair lift, for those who need it.

About the instructor:

The founder and co-owner of Haus of Comedy and a life-long resident of Sacramento, Jessilee Windhaus (she/they) brings over two decades of expertise in theatre and improv education and leadership. She holds a BA in Theatre from CSUS and is the Co-Founder and former Improv Program Director of Empire Arts Collective and the Founder of That Plus Chips live sketch and improv comedy troupe.Locally, Jessilee has performed at Sacramento Comedy Spot, STAB! Comedy, and ComedySportz Sacramento, where she served as the Director of the High School League program. She has trained with Upright Citizen's Brigade and The Groundlings and mentored young actors nationwide as a Tour Actor/Director with Missoula Children's Theatre. They currently work as a Teaching Artist at B Street Theater and an improv instructor and producer for Haus of Comedy, including serving as the director and coach of the improv group Sharks Barksley.
