Immigration, Abolition, and the Christian Faith: A Conversation with Authors Pastor Elle Dowd, she/they and Alejandra Oliva, she/hers
Join us for a thought-provoking online conversation with authors Pastor Elle Dowd, she/they ("Baptized in Tear Gas: From White Moderate to Abolitionist") and Alejandra Olivia ("Rivermouth")! engaging in a conversation about the intersection of abolition, immigration, and the Christian faith. This is particularly timely discussion given the historically high immigration enforcement spending by the Biden Administration and the number of people detained in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE"). In this conversation, Pastor Elle and Alejandra will do short readings from their books and discuss how people of faith, particularly Christians, can approach immigration issues and specifically the fight for abolition of harmful immigration systems, including ICE detention. The authors will end with some suggestions of ways in which Christians and church congregations can answer the call to be in solidarity with immigrant communities.People of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome, but both authors will share pieces from their books that bring in Christian traditions and perspectives.
This is a fundraiser for the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund which operates a revolving fund to post the bonds for individuals from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Kentucky in ICE custody who are granted a bond but are unable to pay. For more info check out, https://www.mibfc.org.
