Course Description

Immediate Responders (IR) are security personnel who will respond to the hostile area when an active assailant event is occurring. If you act as an IR in a church or school setting, then join us on Saturday, May 25th to learn the skills and tactics that are required to provide an armed response. Course topics will include:


  1. Use of Force Requirements
  2. Basic Assault Planning Principles
  3. Equipment Selection
  4. Review: Use of Shields and Mini Shields
  5. Tactical Movement: Solo and Team Configurations
  6. Deliberate and Dynamic Threshold Assessments
  7. Review of Methods of Entry: Solo and Team Configurations


This training will be conducted in a school building and will include movement and clearing techniques in large and small hallways, classrooms, and worship areas.


Course Requirements


  1. Attend the entire course
  2. Written examination


Inclusive

For participants that attend the course in its entirety, and successfully pass the written examination:

o Certificate of completion

o Active Shooter Certification (Tennessee Armed Guard Classification)


Required Equipment

1. Semiautomatic handgun

  1. Duty gear, to include:

a.Holster, belt, and magazine pouch

b.Handheld flashlight

c.Body armor/concealed/plate carrier (optional)


Instructor


Michael Mann, CPP®, PSP® is an expert in providing physical protection for schools, houses of worship, corporate environments, government facilities, and utilities. Michael is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran (Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team), and retired law enforcement SWAT officer. After completing over a decade of service in law enforcement, Michael transitioned into protecting nuclear weapons for the U.S. Department of Energy and served as a full time SRT assaulter, tactical entry specialist, team leader, SRT commander, and instructor. Michael has also served as a corporate security director, executive protection manager, and security consultant.

Michael has a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree and a Master of Science (MS) Degree in Security Management; a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, University of St. Andrews and he studied terrorism at Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel. Michael is also a 32- year student, practitioner and teacher of modern pistolcraft and self- defense, an educator, and he serves as an adjunct staff member for a large university assigned to teach courses in criminal justice, homeland security and counterterrorism
