Event description

Description

“There is that great proverb — that until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter. That did not come to me until much later. Once I realized that, I had to be a writer. I had to be that historian. It’s not one man’s job. It’s not one person’s job. But it is something we have to do, so that the story of the hunt will also reflect the agony, the travail — the bravery, even, of the lions.” – Chinua Achebe

The Imbubé African Book Festival is one of Africa's most respected annual literary events that seeks to highlight the importance of literature as well as foster discussions on the future of the sector, while rewarding excellence in African literature.

Imbubé, which is the Zulu word for lion, is a reference to the critical role literature has come to play in telling the African story, ensuring that stories from the continent are told and read by her people. Imbube is inspired by the above quote from Chinua Achebe.

The Festival is a daylong activity that includes TED-style talks by prominent members of the literary community, panel discussions on different literary activities, award sessions for short story writers, exhibitions and book signings.

This is the festival & awards for those revolutionizing writing & literature in Africa.

Speakers & Panelist at Imbube 2017 include: Debola Williams, Enajite Efemuaye, Steve Harris, Toni Kan, Edirin Edewor, Ini Akpan and more

This is going to be epic!
