About this event
In this iMap program, students will pursue research in groups and focus on sickle cell disease within Black communities in Portland and Seattle. There will be two cohorts of 8 students: one cohort in Portland and one cohort in Seattle. Students will earn $150 upon completion of the program. This program will be all virtual on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, except for the final day. Students will present their findings in person at the iUrban Teen Vancouver and Tukwila offices. The Portland cohort will present at the iUT office in Vancouver, WA and the Seattle cohort will present at the iUT office in Tukwila, WA.

• Apply the scientific method using data sets related to sickle cell disease
• Learn and use digital data analysis tools
• Learn the basics of GIS, AI, and machine learning
• Discover and explore careers in STEM and biology & healthcare
• Collaborate in groups to apply research, data analysis, formulate conclusions and communicate a scientific research project
