Illuminating Easter - Medieval Art Workshop

Illuminating Easter - Medieval Art Workshop

St. Martin's ChurchCanterbury, England
Saturday, Mar 28 from 3 pm to 5 pm
Overview

Make your own Medieval Illumination with art historian Cassandra Harrington at St Martin's Church

Step into the world of medieval art this Easter at St Martin's Church and discover how brilliant colour and shining gold were brought to life on the page.

In this hands-on workshop led by medieval art historian Dr Cassandra Harrington, you’ll learn how artisans created their materials from minerals, plants, and the natural world before trying some of their techniques yourself. After a short introduction to the craft of medieval painting, you’ll create your own illuminated design inspired by historic manuscripts.

No experience is needed. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with your own finished illumination to take home, along with a new appreciation for the skill, creativity, and ingenuity of medieval makers.

Attendees must be at least 14 years old. Please be aware that there are no toilet facilities on site. Access is via several steps both inside and outside the church, and is therefore difficult to access to those with reduced mobility. Refreshments aren't provided, so please feel free to bring your own water or tea/coffee.
