About this event

Transform Wood into Lasting Bonds: Scoop Turning Workshop for Veterans

This isn't just a woodworking class; it's a sanctuary where veterans come together to find common ground and celebrate the unique craftsmanship within each of us. Join us as we carve out moments of joy, camaraderie, and self-discovery, leaving behind not just wooden scoops but a legacy of unity and empowerment.

Veterans Rising is proud to host this event as a part of the Kent County Veterans Services Veteran Recreation Program made possible through a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency grant.

What to Expect:

Craft Lasting Connections: Go beyond wood turning—build lasting bonds with fellow veterans. Share stories and experiences as you shape wood and craft new friendships.

Expert Guidance: Whether a seasoned woodworker or a curious beginner, our skilled instructor Ken will guide you through crafting beautiful scoop handles from start to finish. Learn cutting techniques, shaping methods, and finishing touches to turn simple wood into treasured keepsakes.

Hands-On Experience: Get your hands on the lathe and turn your vision into reality. Select your wood, shape it skillfully, and refine your handle through each step. Create a tangible symbol of your creativity and shared experience.

Supportive Community: The shared joy of crafting fosters connections that extend beyond the workshop. This class builds a community where veterans can continue to learn, share their passion, and support one another.

Materials & Tools Provided: Focus solely on the joy of crafting. All materials, tools, and safety equipment are provided.

Relaxed & Welcoming: Enjoy the warm atmosphere of Woodcraft GR's shop. Unwind, share stories, and celebrate your achievements in a comfortable space. Restrooms and limited seating are available. Standing at the lathe for extended periods of time is required.

Join us for an uplifting experience where you'll craft stunning scoop handles and build cherished connections that last a lifetime!
