Description

The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers and PMG will be hosting a one-day documentation and coding training as part of its ICD-10 Learning Team Collaborative Project. This day-long "live" training will reinforce concepts learned in the eCourse "SET" training, including key concepts of combination coding, using X placeholders, coding for laterality and understanding the key differences in ICD-10 as compared to ICD-9. Attendees will review and learn the key documentation concerns required for ICD-10 code selection.

***This session will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 7 in Framingham.***

Registration/Check-in: 9:30 Training: 10am-3pm

Target Audience: Health Center Billing Staff, Coding Staff, Medical Directors, ICD-10 Project Leads.
A maximum of 4 staff can attend per health center.

PREREQUISITES - All Attendees MUST:

Obtain and bring a copy of the ICD-10 book to be used in class OR
bring your laptop to access your EMR or PMS live

Participate in all 7 eCourse "SET" training sessions.


AGENDA:

9:30-10 AM Registration (coffee to be provided)

10-11:30 AM ICD-10 The Basics - This program is a condensed overview of the significant changes brought on by ICD-10. It will focus on ICD-10 Volumes 1 & 2, establishment of medical necessity via coding, requisite documentation in the assessment and plan of SOAP note, new/revised nomenclature.

11:30 AM -12:30 PM ICD-10 Coding Examples*

12:30-1 PM Lunch (to be provided)

1-2 PM ICD-10 Coding Examples*

2-3 PM Opening Discussion / Q&As


* The review of coding examples will include pre-determined data gathered from PMG ICD audits. Further, attendees are encouraged to bring their ICD-10 textbooks and/or laptop computers (the latter to access their electronic medical record or practice management system) so they may search and learn optimal use of this new coding system. PMG will provide an overview of optimal practices derived from training and interaction with health center clients across the country.
