The International Association of Culinary Professionals is thrilled to invite Nancy Baggett to IACP TALKS. Nancy is the author of the best-selling cookbook, The All-American Cookie Book and nine other baking, dessert, and lavender cookbooks (including two IACP nominees and one winner). Join her for a lively, inspiring talk on how following your culinary passions and purposefully honing your expertise can lead to article assignments, cookbook contracts and other rewarding career opportunities. Drawing on numerous practical examples from her four-plus decades as a food writer, she’ll relate: How tightly-focused researching and accelerated recipe testing led to her popular Kneadlessly Simple: Fabulous, Fuss-Free, No-Knead Breads. How, when she lived in Germany, her targeted deep-dive into slivers of German culinary culture led two stories on German cooking for Bon Appetit and the Washington Post. And most recently, how (and why) she spent many hours taste-testing culinary lavender with hundreds of other ingredients on her way to becoming a top expert on cooking with this herb.

Besides offering her own how-to’s, Nancy will cover what experts say is needed to become an expert. She’ll relate tried and true ways to reduce your learning curve, and how to create opportunities from your expertise. She’ll also offer wisdom on how to become known as an expert once you’ve “arrived”. She’ll wrap up by sharing what she has found to be the best way cookbook authors can convey their expertise and win the precious trust and loyalty of their readers.
