About the instructor: Jim Dougherty
Jim Dougherty is an accomplished American actor, filmmaker, and educator with over 60 film and television credits and more than 300 live theatrical productions to his name. A graduate of Indiana University, Jim honed his craft in Chicago, where he trained under renowned stunt coordinator John Hicks Pearce and contributed to the development of The Chicago Stunt Team. He also managed the esteemed Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts for several years, further solidifying his expertise in physical performance.
Jim's early film career began with precision driving for Nora Ephron's Michael and expanded to roles in notable television series such as Marvel's The Gifted, Netflix's House of Cards, and NBC's Chicago P.D.. He has also appeared in acclaimed films like Columbus, Reparation, and Between Waves, working alongside talents like John Cho, Jon Huertas, and Amy Jo Johnson. In 2022, he portrayed Paul McKinney in the Lionsgate thriller Paradise Highway, starring Juliette Binoche and Morgan Freeman.
Beyond acting, Jim is a dedicated educator and behind-the-scenes contributor. He serves as the chief instructor at Online Actors Academy s well as Indy Actors Academy in Indianapolis, coaching students who have appeared in major productions such as The Mandalorian, The Walking Dead, and Chicago Fire, Doom Patrol, Twisters, Chicafo P.D., Chicago Med, The Resident, The Pitt, and more.... As a filmmaker, he has directed, edited, and produced numerous independent projects.
Residing just outside Chicago, Jim continues to influence the entertainment industry both in front of and behind the camera.
