Als Akt gemeinschaftlicher Forschung wird Weaving Social Texture von Jana Maria Dohmann während der Ausstellung Hypertopia zu einem kollektiven Gewebe erwachsen. Zentrales Moment der partizipativen Installation ist der Aushandlungsprozess individueller und kollektiver Entscheidungen; Schritt für Schritt bestimmen die Partizipierenden durch Praktiken des freien Knüpfens, Knotens und Verwebens ihre letztendliche Form. Die Ausgangssituation wird von eine Grundkonstruktion im Raum definiert, welche die Künstlerin vorab installiert und aktiviert, ein Set an Scores gibt Besucher*innen Handlungseinladungen. Konzeptionell wird die explorative Situation von einer fragmentarischen Handbibliothek begleitet, die Informationen und Impulse aus diversen Wissensbereichen bereithält. Der skulpturale Körper, der im Zuge der Aktion entsteht, untersucht das Handlungspotential der heterogenen Gemeinschaft – einen Aspekt also, der in vielerlei Hinsicht unsere Zukunft bestimmt.

Hypertopia

Hypertopia versteht sich als Ort zwischen heute und morgen. Angetrieben von der Vision eines kollektiven Bewusstseinswandels antizipiert das interdisziplinäre Ausstellungs- und Themenprogramm eine Zeit nach der Krise, um Gestaltungsansätze für eine zukunftsfähige Gegenwart zu entwickeln. Anhand künstlerischer Positionen, Propositionen und explorativer Projekte, die auf wissenschaftlichen Methoden und spekulativen Denkweisen beruhen, werden Hierarchien hinterfragt, Ideen erprobt und alternative Szenarien eines kooperativen, biodiversen Miteinanders entworfen.

Hypertopia präsentiert Arbeiten von Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg (UK), Ani Liu (USA), Dominique Koch (CH), Salvatore Iaconesi & Oriana Persico (IT), Himali Singh Soin (UK/IND) und Jana Maria Dohmann (D) und ein Gemeinschaftsprojekt der STATE-initiierten Curious Minds Community; Mitwirkende des Diskursprogramms, das die Kernideen der künstlerischen Positionen im Rahmen von Field-Trips an relevanten Orten im städtischen Raum weiterdenkt, werden in Kürze unter www.state-studio.com/program/hypertopia. bekanntgegeben.

Weaving Social Texture is a collective research project and performance by Jana Maria Dohmann that seeks to inspire interaction. Over the course of her show, the participatory installation will grow into a collective tissue of decisions, all of which are driven by individual, or mutually coordinated choices. A basic set up pre-installed by the artist serves as a point of departure for the collective, essentially improvised work. Further reference is provided by a set of scores, that frame the action, adding a few fundamental guidelines for the visitors to carry out. Everything else derives from the moment, from free decisions, acts and deeds – that is, from participatory typing, knotting, and interweaving. The explorative situation is supported by a fragmentary reference library, holding ready a subjective anthology of ecological, philosophical, and cultural knowledge. The resulting sculptural structure investigates the potential of collectivity and social negotiation – and thus raises a question on which the future of our planet depends.

About the exhibition:

Hypertopia bridges between today and tomorrow. Powered by the vision of a collective change in consciousness, the interdisciplinary program and exhibition anticipates a post-crisis future to explore approaches for a meaningful present. With a selection of artistic positions, propositions and exploratory projects that incorporate scientific methods as well as speculative modes of thought, Hypertopia challenges hierarchies, probes ideas, and imagines scenarios for a new planetary optimism.

The exhibition presents works by Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg (UK), Ani Liu (USA), Dominique Koch (CH), Salvatore Iaconesi and Oriana Persico (IT), Himali Singh Soin (UK/IND) and Jana Maria Dohmann (D) as well as a collaborative project by STATE’s Curious Minds Community ; contributors to the discursive program – a series of field trips that take the show’s artistic positions and core ideas to relevant places of the city – will be announced shortly on www.state-studio.com/program/hypertopia.
