Rather than using costume as apparel only, husk/vessel views clothing as that which both covers and contains, conceals and reveals the dancer and the dancing, simultaneously limiting and expanding the possibilities for movement and character. Each dancer moves within a unique garment-world of their own, exploring gradual and abrupt transformations and interactions both as soloists sharing common space, and as an ensemble.The costume structures, designed by Christine Joly de Lotbiniere, are unique but akin in the use of materials so that there is a sense of “tribe” or relatedness among the all-female cast of performers. KAIROS expands access to the arts in Boston communities and beyond by consistently and frequently creating innovative performances and interactive workshops that invite all to experience and understand the power of dance. In pursuit of creating engaging, sensory work, KAIROS currently crafts 2-3 original dance-theater performances per season in collaboration with digital media artists, composers, musicians, and fashion and set designers; and offers cultural events including open rehearsals and educational workshops throughout New England, NYC and internationally at theaters, universities, galleries, museums, and site-specific spaces. Our community-based projects and immersive performances promote collaboration, risk-taking, border-crossing, and thinking deeply about the boundaries of art and lived experience.K﻿AIROS performances have been featured as a &quot;Critics&#x27; Pick&quot; 19 times by The Boston Globe and presented by The Gardner Museum, Provincetown Dance Festival, Booking Dance Festival NYC / Jazz at Lincoln Center, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Boston Cyber Arts Festival, Boston Exhibition &amp; Convention Center, The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in partnership with Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Busan Biennale (South Korea), Compass Theater (Russia), ZOU Arts Festival (France), among many others. KAIROS has been awarded residencies at URBANO Project, Roger Williams University, The Dance Complex, Mass Motion Boston, and Boston Center for the Arts. KAIROS’s work has been funded by Boston Cultural Council in partnership with Massachusetts Cultural Council, Somerville Arts Council, Boston Dance Alliance, Boston Foundation, and New England Foundation for the Arts. KAIROS’s work with youth has received recognition from the City of Boston and President Obama’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities for exceptional work in presenting rich learning opportunities to young people in the field of arts. KAIROS’s curriculum for creating collaborative performance projects with teenagers was chosen for publication in a special issue of Harvard’s Educational Review.
