About this event

  • 2 hours 30 minutes

Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter Humbird celebrates the release of her third album Right On with a full-band performance on the beautiful Sacred Heart Music Center altar stage Thursday, May 30.

Siri Undlin (the songwriter behind the moniker) and her collaborators tracked Right On over the course of two muggy weeks in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. For a collection of songs unafraid of ambiguity, it’s music that bares its teeth. Anger and dismay sizzle in response to current events. Heartbreak feels like sandpaper, while wildflowers bob and sway in an ever-expanding universe.

Produced by Shane Leonard and featuring regular contributors Pat Keen (bass, synth, percussion) and Pete Quirsfeld (drums and percussion), the majority of the songs showcase the locked-in rock trio, a progression from the contemplative folk musings of Humbird's previous releases.

Bay area songwriter Avery Hellman, performing as ISMAY, will open the concert.

Advance E-tickets are available now on Eventbrite.com for $20. Advance paper tickets will be available at Globe News in Superior and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while supply lasts. Doors at 6:30pm. Music at 7:30.

Sacred Heart Music Center offers an eclectic mix of live music performances in a dramatic, historic setting. It has become a unique venue in downtown Duluth for regional, national and international artists, and gives the audience a musical experience that’s both intimate and awe-inspiring.

Sacred Heart has a rich history. The building, which was built in 1896, was once the Sacred Heart Cathedral. In 1985, the Catholic Diocese in Duluth announced that Sacred Heart’s congregation would merge with St. Mary Star of the Sea. That’s when a community group formed to rescue the beautiful historic space from the wrecking ball and preserve it for generations to come.

Today, a non-profit organization continues to fulfill that mission. Sacred Heart has become a showcase for music in Duluth’s Central Hillside neighborhood. It’s home to a recording studio and the historic Felgemaker organ. And new efforts are underway to instill a love of music into area children with youth outreach programs.

Along with musical performances, Sacred Heart has hosted a variety of other public and private events – even a yoga conference! From weddings and receptions, to parties and meetings, Sacred Heart is available to rent for many special events.

Sacred Heart is a testament to the magic of music, the local arts scene, and preserving historic treasures. You’ll feel the special connection to this space when you come inside!
