<h3><strong><strong>About the Event</strong></strong></h3><p>Join ICCC Houston and the Consulate General of Italy in Houston as we celebrate astronaut Luca Parmitano and his official selection as pilot for NASA's upcoming Artemis III mission.</p><p>Parmitano will deliver a talk on the present and future of human spaceflight, providing an overview of the crewed orbital systems currently in operation, as well as those under development that will carry the next generation of astronauts to new destinations. You'll learn how technological advancements are ushering in a new era of human space exploration.</p><h3><strong><strong>Details</strong></strong></h3><p>Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2026<br>Time: 7:00 - 8:30 pm<br>Place: Italian Cultural &amp; Community Center, 1101 Milford St.<br>Tickets: Free event | Limited seating, registration highly encouraged</p><h3><strong><strong>Meet the Presenter</strong></strong></h3><p>Luca Parmitano is an ESA astronaut who was born in Paternò, Italy, though he considers Catania his hometown. He completed his first six-month Volare mission to the International Space Station in 2013 and returned to space for his Beyond mission in 2019, serving as the third European and first Italian commander of the International Space Station during Expedition 61. Between the Volare and Beyond missions, he has spent 366 days in space and supported hundreds of experiments. In June 2026, he was selected by NASA to be the pilot for the Artemis III mission.</p><p><br></p><p>This event is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.</p>
