Human Centered Design Workshop

The GW Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship is committed to promoting excellence in multidisciplinary entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional engagement in new venture creation at the George Washington University. Founded in 2010, the office has worked closely with thousands of aspiring student, faculty, and alumni entrepreneurs, and now serves as a focal point to foster, promote, and perpetuate quality academic research, education, and outreach programs. It leverages the unique strengths of the George Washington University's schools in the nation’s capital to serve society at large through the knowledge and practice of entrepreneurship.In 2013, with the help of our office's operations, the George Washington University was placed among the Princeton Review's top 25 universities with the best graduate entrepreneurship programs in the nation.Find us at www.gwu.edu/entrepreneurship.

<P><SPAN>Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship presents the Designing Innovative Solutions for Social Challenges workshop. This experiential and interactive workshop exposes students to the tools, tactics, and frameworks used by innovators, entrepreneurs, and designers to empathize with populations they seek to serve, define problem sets, and come up with innovative solutions.</SPAN></P>

<H2><SPAN>What Will I Learn</SPAN></H2>
<P><SPAN>Tools gained at this workshop will benefit those with a passion for social change, inclusion and diversity, and those at the early stages of exploring their own innovations, ideas, nonprofits, and social enterprises. No prior experience with design thinking is necessary to attend. We encourage participation from teams and individuals that have identified a problem they would like to solve.</SPAN></P>

<P><SPAN>Social and civic innovators and entrepreneurs around the world are tackling some of the most complex and challenging social problems of our time. These innovators use the design thinking and human-centered design methods to provide impactful solutions in the US and across the globe. This workshop will dive into design thinking as a way to help students frame problems and create solutions to social and environmental issues.</SPAN></P>

<H2><SPAN>About the Facilitators</SPAN></H2>
<P><SPAN>Scott Stein is the Associate Director for Student Entrepreneurship at GW. Scott has worked with Ben & Jerry's, the State of Oregon, Main Street Alliance, and Mobilize.org as a social entrepreneur, facilitator, and design thinker developing and implementing new approaches to solving social problems.</SPAN></P>

For non-GW attendees and GW alumni attending this event, please ensure that you have a valid form of ID with you upon arrival. Digital copy on your phone will suffice. If you do not have a form of ID to present to the front desk staff upon arrival, you will NOT be allowed into the building per Gelman Library policy. </SPAN><EM>Our office will not be held responsible if you forget to bring a form of identification with you to check into the Gelman Library.</EM></P>
