Ballet Photography Workshop In San Francisco

Rama is an Italian photographer and graphic designer. In his family, art is tradition. Born to a goldsmith, his first steps were in the laboratory. Every attempt to keep him away from the thelaboratory (especially the wielded machine) failed, it was clear that his place was to become an artist. During his formative years, Rama walked in the direction of commercial and fashion images; jokingly, he describe himself as a “mercenary,” putting all of his art skills and knowledge at the service of advertising agencies. Upon meeting his muse and partner, it was only 2012 that his direction returned to the world of the arts. Now a days, Rama’s artwork is based on photography and digital manipulation. Rama's artwork shows a particular passion for classical ballet, and his undertakings vary from landscape, nature, animal, people or the abstract. Classical dance was a great inspiration to ramas artworks; what begun as an interesting study in the technique, soon transformed to the center of Rama’s art projects. This mission to bring study of how to represent dancers at their best, brings both of them together. They travel internationally to work with and photograph dancers-- as photographer and choreography assistent.

Hello photographers, We are organizing a new workshop dedicated to photographing ballet. 
The sessions are 3 hours, we will simulate the common set up for a ballet photoshoot that is a one-on-one shooting with a possible assistant. 
I will direct the workshop as a photography class and you will receive individual coaching. 
Off course Being an outdoor photoshoot the most seasoned photographers might prefer to be more independent and be free to shoot as they please. Not being bound by the limitation of studio lighting It will be possible but always keep in mind the respect for al participants and the needs of the dancer modeling
Our goal is quality-- to capture strong and beautyful images.

Recommended equipment: any dslr and lenses 55mm and over, possibly a 2.8 aperture but not required. A mirror-less camera can work but is not recommendable for this kind of photography. (I use canon and will have strobe flashes with remote trigger if needed, but keep in mind they might not work correctly on different camera brands). 
This session is set up as a one-on-one (dancer – photographer) photo shoot.
During the workshop, I will explain:
1) The “modus operandi” on how to successfully collaborate with a dancer, how to direct and pose ballet, and expectations of both parties. 2) Camera settings, composition, perspective, use of natural light, reflectors, and portable flash.
An integral part of the learning process is to understand how to select pictures. I will set up a Google Drive folder where you will have the option of sharing your work. My assistent and I will provide feedback on the images to solidify understanding of the material we cover.
The first objective is to build a strong portfolio, knowledge, and skills to work with real, professional dancers—and to conduct successful outdoor photo shoots.
The second objective is to be independent and apply this knowledge to your own photo shoots.
Our model will be Anna L Russell. Currently a guest artist, she has modeled for leading photographers in the ballet world; she is the assistant, stylist, and choreographer for my ballet photo shoots.
