Overview

Join the protest with Chrystale Wilson & Theresa tha SONGBIRD. Laugh, cry, let your soul be fed by these powerhouse entertainers!

Flint River Community Center’s Black Box Theatre in Riverdale, Georgia is excited to announce the return of the premier stageplay HOW TO PROTEST written by and starring the incomparable Chrystale Wilson, and international spoken word artist- Theresa tha SONGBIRD. This captivating play explores the boundless forms of humanity, experienced in a day at protest.

HOW TO PROTEST is a collection of experiences from 9 different women of color, spanning in ages from 8 to 75, all in attendance at another protest- seeking justice for disenfranchised people. Bernadean and Nimayalyn, despite being decades apart in age, both journey a path of being lost in the course of the day’s events. Seasoned activists Shirley and Dorothy look on from the comfort of their front porch, reclaiming their presence and usefulness as elders in the community. Officer Mayfeather brings black and blue into a tangible scope. In Kathryn and Ifechukwu we experience the complexities of being “black” in America.

The play is brought to life by our leading ladies. Chrystale Wilson has sizzled in movies and television since 1998. She is a breakout icon of black cinematic culture in her unforgettable role as “Ronnie” in "Player’s Club”. Theresa tha SONGBIRD is an award-winning children’s book author, international spoken word artist, vocalist, and creator. Collectively these two talents weave an intricate and wildly entertaining story about accessing love when it counts.
