🌟 Join Us for How to Be a Great Cis* Ally Training! 🌈

Welcome to the How to be a GREAT Cis Ally event hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick on Sat May 31, 2025 at 9:00 AM. Join us for a day of learning and community building as we prepare for Brunswick Pride. This event is all about supporting and advocating for the Trans and Gender Fluid community as a cisgender* people.

This isn’t your average sit-and-listen session. We’re diving into how we relate to gender—personally, socially, and systemically—and how we can all show up as stronger, more consistent allies in our everyday lives. Whether you’re new to this work or deep into your journey, there’s space for you here.

What You’ll Leave With:

  • Shared understanding of how gender roles, expression, and identity show up in our lives.
  • Sharpened your spidey senses for spotting the line between healthy curiosity and invasive questions.
  • Recognition that fighting for trans and gender justice isn’t just about others—it’s about all of us getting free.
  • Collected a toolbox of everyday ways to be a badass, effective cis ally.
  • Chosen at least one next move that fits your life and your journey as an ally.

🎉 Let’s get into it. This work is powerful, personal, and deeply connected to justice for all of us!

*Cisgender is the term used for people whose gender identity corresponds with the sex registered for them at birth; not transgender.

Why is the workshop for cisgender people only?

Transgender and gender fluid people worked on the design and content of this workshop with cisgender people. The intention of this course is that it be an affinity space for cisgender people to ask questions and reflect on gender without causing harm to trans and gender queer people.

Is this workshop appropriate for children?

This workshop is engaging and fun and also has a lot of taking and listening. We realize all kids are different; we recommend that this workshop is for people from age 14 to 100.

Will this workshop talk about medical transitioning or other services for trans people in Maine?

No. This is not a workshop about medical transition, or about accessing medical care or legal support. Please contact Maine Trans Net for support.
