Klasey Consulting is partnering with Lincoln Families to bring the training "How Historical Oppression Affects the Current Dialogue of Sex Trafficking and Sexual Assault Amongst System-Involved Youth and Young Adults" for Alameda Solano, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, Humboldt, Tuolumne and Calaveras County providers. While sexual assault and sex trafficking happen to people of all racial and ethnic groups, some groups are disproportionately impacted. This training will discuss how historical oppression impacts the disproportionately we see in the current day. This knowledge is crucial for social service providers given how many system-involved youth have experienced sexual assault. Participants will also learn how to approach youth, families, and communities in culturally competent ways.

Please note that in order to register for these free trainings you must be staff, caregiver or volunteer working directly with foster, adoptive or probation-involved children, youth and their families in Alameda, Solano, Mendocino, Lake, Contra Costa, Humboldt, Tuolumne and Calaveras only. Participants outside of these areas aren't eligible and will not receive the zoom link.

The learning objectives for the training include:

  • Participants will be able to identify at least one group that is negatively impacted by sex trafficking
  • Participants will be able to identify at least one-way historical oppression impacts current dialogue about sexual assault
  • Participants will be able to identify at least one strategy to support system-involved youth who have been sexually assaulted or sex trafficked.

The training will be led by Dr. Nicole Kelly of Klasey Consulting LLC. You can learn more about Klasey Consulting at www.klaseyconsulting.com
