Description

This interactive talk based on Stacey’s book 'How does my Brain Work?’ provides an exciting introduction to neuroscience suitable for primary school aged children. Stacey and her co-presenter Isabelle will tell the story of an adventurous little girl as she discovers amazing things about what her brain is, what it looks like, how it works, and what it is made up of. This journey will lead young audiences through different areas of the brain and where they will discover the importance of neurons, and learn fascinating facts about brain biology.

BIOS:

​Stacey A. Bedwell was awarded her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Nottingham Trent University in 2015. She is currently working on several research projects and collaborations with other neuroscientists, her main interest is in the complex high order functions of the human brain and how these are organised. Stacey’s background is in psychology, having completed her M.Sc. and B.Sc. in psychology at Bangor University. Stacey’s research has been published in several influential scientific journals and she regularly contributes reviews and articles to wider audience publications.

Isabelle Butcher completed her four year undergraduate degree at Cardiff University. Subsequently Isabelle completed her MSc in clinical psychology at Leiden university, the Netherlands. This led to Isabelle working as an assistant psychologist on an inpatient unit in South Wales. Isabelle then worked in the Division of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University on a range of research projects.
Isabelle is now currently undertaking a PhD in the Division of Psychology and Mental Health at the University of Manchester. This is funded by the Medical Research Council and is exploring the relationship between trauma, attachment and recovery from psychosis.
