About this event

Career development begins in early childhood. Seriously? Yes!

The Career Development in Early Childhood: Opening the Door to a World of Possibilities practice forum, sponsored by the Wheelock College Center for Future Readiness at Boston University (BU) and the industry-led Coalition for Career Development (CCD) Center, will explore the critical importance of nurturing children’s imagination about the world of possibilities.

BU Professor Dr. Kimberly Howard will describe how developing social and emotional learning skills and career awareness provides the foundation for healthy identity development.

Anne Lund, senior director for content and curriculum at PBS KIDS, will describe their motivation and goals for creating new career readiness content and resources, such as the recently released “What Can You Become” shorts and “Jamming on the Job” podcast.

Mighty Picnic Founder and Emmy Award-winning Producer and Creator Dave Peth will describe PBS KIDS’ newest multi-platform series, Lyla in the Loop, and how this effort combines the development of executive functioning and computational thinking skills with career development.

Kristin McSwain will reflect on Boston's College, Career, and Life Framework and the benefits of an early start. She currently directs the Office of Early Childhood and previously served as Executive Director of the Boston Opportunity Agenda.

With a background as superintendent, principal, and teacher, Chi Kim is the chief executive officer at Pure Edge, Inc. In her work leading a foundation, as a parent of three, and as a board member of the CCD Center, YouthBuild, and CASEL, Chi is dedicated to the health and well-being of students and professionals throughout their lifelong journey.
