How do I find teammates?

Use Slack to share ideas, meet others, and start building. At Kickoff, pitch your challenge idea during the Open Mic + participate in the networking to form or join a team. Remember: Collaboration across skills and perspectives makes ideas stronger! Ideal teams should be 3–5 people, 6 max.

Yes, teams of 1 are welcome, but we encourage you to connect with others for a richer experience.

How do I pick a specific challenge to work on?

What if I change my mind about the challenge?

Don’t worry if your team changes. Part of the process at the Hackathon is exploring ideas and finding the best fit.

I don't have technical skills. Can I still participate?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Don't think you've got what it takes? That's simply not true. We'll help
you get oriented. This is a civic hackathon. We need people who understand
community challenges, policy, design, research, and many other non-technical skills.

Can I work on an existing project?

Accepted Answer

You can tackle a new challenge, try a new approach to a challenge you've worked
on before, or bring a solution you're currently working on and want to recruit help for.

Is food provided?

Some lunch will be provided during the kickoff event. Coffee and networking
refreshments will also be available. There are also several restaurants at the Ion that.

Can I leave and come back?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and teams can continue collaborating at The Ion until 7 PM on Friday, then
work continues offsite through the weekend. The main structured activities are from
12-4 PM on Friday.

What if I'm under 18?

The event welcomes participants ages 15+. Minors should have guardian
permission and may need adult accompaniment depending on age.

Is there a dress code?

Casual, comfortable attire is perfect. You'll be working intensively, so dress for
comfort and collaboration.

Is there parking available?

Accepted Answer

The first 3 hours in the parking lot are free. After that you will
be charged at the designated rates of 3-4 hrs $6 and 4+ hrs $10. If you want to avoid any fees, set an alarm 15 minutes before your expiration
time, exit and re-enter the parking lot to reset the clock.
