<H2>Who has the best barbecue: Austin or Houston? </H2>
<H2>Find out this December at the HOU-ATX BBQ Throwdown!</H2>
The Houston Barbecue Festival and Friends & Allies Brewing announce the 2nd annual HOU-ATX BBQ Throwdown! featuring top barbecue restaurants from Houston and Austin competing to determine who reigns supreme when it comes to Texas barbecue.
Ticket holders will sample each of the barbecue competition entries as well as enjoy great Friends & Allies beer.
Participating Austin-area barbecue joints include: Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue (Judge's co-champ from 2017), Banger's Sausage House, LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue (Judge's co-champ from 2017), Micklethwait Craft Meats, and Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew. 
Houston barbecue joints that qualified by being top finishers in the 3rd annual Houston BBQ Throwdown on 16 September 2018 are: Beaver’s, Daddy Duncan's BBQ, El Burro & the Bull, Harlem Road Texas BBQ, and Victorian's Barbecue. 
Bodacious Bar-B-Q from Longview and Brett's Backyard Bar-B-Que from Rockdale will participate as wildcard entries. Participant lineup is subject to change.
Texas is a state of rivalries, and no rivalry creates more passionate debate than which city has the best barbecue: Houston or Austin. 
Each individual participant will present their vision of the perfect Texas barbecue dish. This will be a creative dish that pushes the boundaries of the traditional Texas Trinity of brisket, pork ribs, and sausage. The primary criteria will be that the dish has a smoked element to it, with other criteria such as flavor and texture equally weighed.

A blind judging process featuring barbecue experts from around Texas will pick a single winner from the entries. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award in which guests can vote for their favorite dish.
The barbecue judging panel will include Matthew Odam of the Austin American-Statesman, Daniel Vaughn of Texas Monthly magazine, barbecue photographer Robert J. Lerma, Friends & Allies Head Brewer Nathan Crane, and Austin food writer Paula Forbes. 
**A very limited number of guest tickets will be sold.** $70 ticket price includes two 12oz portions (two cans) of Friends and Allies beer and unlimited samples of each barbecue joint’s competition dish.  
**To ensure the best possible experience for all guests, only a limited number of tickets will be made available for sale. Tickets sold out well in advance of last year's event - we encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as possible to ensure availability.**
**All tickets sold in advance online. No ticket sales at the door.**

FAQs
What is the refund policy?
THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS. Tickets are transferable.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Adults must bring an ID to the event. You must be 21 years of age to consume beer. ONLY CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS OF AGE WILL BE ADMITTED FREE. ALL OTHER AGES MUST PURCHASE A TICKET (this is because we want to ensure there is enough barbecue and space for all guests).
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes. Contact us at <A HREF="mailto:festival@houbbq.com" TARGET="_blank" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">festival@houbbq.com</A> and we will coordinate the transfer with you. 
Can I take food home?
No. Coolers and containers for storing food are prohibited. All food must be consumed at the event.
