Aperçu

Meet friends, new and old, and see the beautiful and game-changing Hotel Marcel.

Connecticut Green Building Council, Connecticut Passive House, and Conscious Capitalism CT invite you to a networking happy hour and tour of Hotel Marcel.

This event will feature remarks from Bruce Becker, the developer, planner and architect, whose bold vision led to the historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of New Haven’s iconic Breuer landmark into a model of sustainable hospitality. This game-changing hotel retrofit is currently pursuing NetZero, LEED Platinum, and ENERGY STAR® certifications and is slated to become the first Passive House hotel in the United States.

Project team members from Steven Winter Associates will also talk about this project and lead small group tours. Topics include:

  • Energy, health and design features/process of the all-electric kitchen, e.g. low-energy menu planning, tradeoffs, etc.
  • The features and qualities of a typical room, e.g. new windows, low-GWP insulation, low-emitting materials, daylighting, all-electric DHW, etc.
  • 8th floor meeting spaces, e.g. discussion of how reusing structure and enclosure avoids embodied carbon of new construction.
  • Time and weather permitting, a walk around the building to point out various design aspects both architectural and sustainable, e.g. EV chargers, pollinator garden, native plantings.

Details

5:00 - 7:00 PM networking in the Sunken Lobby with inspiring, modernist surroundings.

Remarks by:

  • Bruce Redman Becker, FAIA, LEED AP -- Becker + Becker
