Seattle's store for the rocks, gems, and everything for lapidary work.  We love to share our passion for nature and foster creativity and learning. Our staff is friendly and knowledgeable and very excited about the hobby. The shop and classrooms are comfortable and inviting.  There's so much to see, you might find yourself there for a long while.The NW Rockhounds Education Center is powered by Shunpike and can receive tax deductible donations. Shunpike is the 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that provides independent arts groups in Washington State with the services, resources and opportunities they need to forge their own paths to sustainable success. We hope through fundraising efforts, these classes can be offered at minimal cost to grow and nuture the art of rockhounding. Students who withdraw 7 days (or less) prior to the start date of the first class DO NOT receive a refund of any kind.CANCELLATIONS:All classes not meeting their minimum requirement three days prior to class start date may be cancelled. Designed for silversmithing students who want to practice & pursue independent projects ( Level 1-Meet the Butane Torch class Required)

Instructor: Christina BengtsonTime: 11:30am-3:30pmAges: 18 &amp; upPrice: $60 + $5 Kit fee(The PREREQUISITE for this class is Silversmithing Level 1 - Meet The Butane Torch or prior butane torch silver soldering)Hot Open Studio offers a 4-hour time block designed for metalsmithing students who want to practice torch work and/or pursue independent projects with instructor guidance. Complete torch set up equipment and basic toolboxes will be available for use. Beginners with basic butane torch experience are welcome! This open studio does not offer formal scheduled instruction, but instructor, Christina will be present for questions/guidance. Students do not have to be present for the full 4 hr. time block and can drop in or leave at any time. You must, however, register no later than 24hrs prior to participate.Join our metalsmithing community at NW Rockhounds! We provide: Complete butane torch stations with necessary tools, pickle and neutralizer, basic toolbox with bench blocks, hammers, mallets, pliers, mitre vice and files. Also available for use- a wide variety of specialty tools including mandrels, hammers, third hands, titanium picks and clamps, sheers etc. Rolling and wire mills available for use with supervision. - Please Read Below -You Bring: Metals, solder ( if you intend to solder), flux, stones ( whatever consumables you want to work with)There is a supply kit fee made payable to the teacher day of class by cash or check. Please come prepared to pay this fee.Check your email a few days before your class for further instructions.Our classroom is located upstairs and are limited to 6 students for this class. You are purchasing a seat at an event just like a sporting event or concert. These tickets are not transferable to a different class credit or store credit if you are not able to make it. Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the event date will receive a refund.
