About this event

  • 22 hours

REACH Northwest and Grace Baptist Church are happy to offer the Hope for the Journey Conference on May 3rd and 4th in Newberg, Oregon.

Show Hope’s Hope for the Journey Conference is designed to encourage and equip parents and caregivers who meet the everyday needs and unique challenges of children impacted by adoption and/or foster care. The conference is also a much-needed resource for churches, agencies, and organizations in their care and support of the families and communities they serve.

This one-and-a-half-day event is designed to reduce the barriers that stand between children and places of healing, security, and hope. The conference will provide an in-depth look at the impact of trauma on children and will offer insights, strategies, and tools for caregivers to achieve effective behavioral change while promoting lasting connection and healing with their children.

The Hope for the Journey Conference will include five high-level learning modules based on the foundational principles of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®). Embedded within each learning module will be a “Going Deeper” teaching video on a select topic. Also included will be one practical, encouraging “Practical Perspectives” video featuring the voices of adult adoptees (as well as adoptive and foster families).

This conference is ideal for foster parents, adoptive parents, parents of children who have experienced trauma, educators, counselors, caseworkers, church staff, and anyone who works with children from hard places.

Frequently asked questions

What is the basis of TBRI®?

Developed by Drs. Karyn Purvis and David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development (KPICD) at TCU, TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) is a care model designed to help meet relational and developmental needs of children and youth impacted by trauma.

Who would benefit from this conference?

Teachers, family members, parents, grandparents, foster parents, adoptive parents, professionals, church leaders, coaches, case workers and justice system workers. TBRI is relevant to working with all children and teens and helping to create welcoming and trauma-informed communities of care.

Is the Hope for the Journey conference faith-based?

Show Hope is a faith-based organization and evidence of the Christian faith will naturally be part of the Hope for the Journey Conference. However, the concepts are not explicitly Christian and we welcome and encourage all to participate. The last module, The Gospel + TBRI, is optional to attend.

Is there a student discount available?

Yes, there is a 25% discount for college students. Please contact Shirley directly at shirley@reachnw.org for the promo code.
