About this event

Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, May 31. Half-day Improv Camp for kids ages 4 to 6 at ColdTowne Theater.

Hooray, Improv! is a low-pressure, play-based performing arts camp that emphasizes finding the funny in what's already there. Age-appropriate Improv and Storytelling exercises & games facilitate collaboration and creation, while a focus on finding the funny together leads to shared laughter.

It's silly, it's fun, it's air-conditioned. What better way to start the summer?

Extended-care options are available at check-out. Not sure if you'll need it? It's ok to add it the week of camp. Performance on the final day if desired by campers. Students should bring a snack and a water bottle. Break times may include outdoor time if the weather allows. $225.

*Originally titled "Yeah, Improv"

Frequently asked questions

What should my student wear?

Clothing that is easy to move around in and shoes that stay on their feet.

Will there be a performance at the end of camp?

If the students in attendance wish to perform, then definitely! If not, we won't make them. The show will be on the final day at noon and you are welcome to bring friends and family.

What if my student is shy?

Most students are shy on the first day! Improv is uniquely helpful in creating shared experiences that build trust in the group and oneself. Assure your child that there's no pressure to do anything they aren't comfortable with and that we're really just telling stories together.

What if my student loves to be center stage?

Collaborating & supporting whatever happens (even when the story doesn't go how one imagined it would) can be challenging for some. It's hard to give up control! Improv is a chance to create something together we couldn't have imagined on our own & fosters creative & social growth along the way.

Organized by

Excused Absence Comedy is the youth program at ColdTowne Theater. We offer improv, sketch and stand up training to kids and teens in Austin, Texas and beyond. Taught by some of Austin's best comics, our year round classes, house troupes, and camps invite a diverse group of young people to hone their comedy skills while benefitting from the social and emotional tools improv provides.

We produce two weekly, all ages shows year round. What's the Story Steve is a Saturday morning improv show, designed for for families and performed by a skilled, adult cast. Excused Absence Night is every Sunday at 5 and includes both youth and adult acts to allow youth to see both peers and pro's perform. The show ends in an improv jam, for those who wish to get up and give it a try!

Excused Absence Fest is a yearly all ages comedy festival that features two days of live performance and workshops. It's the only youth centered comedy festival in Texas!
