Honesty Europe proudly presents: For the second time – an honesty community gathering in Europe!

About this Event

Honesty Gathering in Finland

Easter weekend -- 10-13 April 2020

Over the past few years, we have dreamed about bringing together people who are part of our honesty community and last September we—Tuulia, Pete and the team—managed to make that happen in Damouchari, Greece.

Now, this April, we will gather again; this time in lovely woods in Finland! We have a beautiful and very special location for our Gathering: the well-known Elontuli retreat center located in southern Finland.

Maybe you have already attended several of our workshops and want more time and opportunities to meet others, hang out and practice together? Do you want to meet again some of those lovely people from your retreat, your 8-day intensive, your workshop or your Meetup? Do you want to be in a workshop setting where the sessions are optional?

Do you really like the way of expressing yourself honestly and openly and want to make more honest friends? Have you heard about this from friends or family and are curious to join the weirdos? Are you up for some amazing days in a Finnish forest by a lake?

We see this Gathering of our tribe as a cross between a retreat and a festival. Various sessions will run concurrently from morning till evening. You can choose which sessions you want to attend. Or you can skip the sessions and just hang out with like-minded people. Or you can organize your session or request the session you want.

The sessions can include various group and paired exercises, hot seat sessions, basics for newcomers, sharing circles, work on shame, sexuality, inner child and other topics arising, Finnish-language session, German-language session, movement, yoga, seated and walking meditation, and / or (if there’s enough interest) a couples session.

Location

The Gathering will take place at the Elontuli retreat center in Lohja Finland, near Helsinki. The main building at Elotuli (loosely translated as Fire of Life) is a lovely two-storey log structure, painted in traditional red. Elotuli is surrounded by a forest and close to a lake. Read more about Elontuli and watch a video about the center here.

How to get there

You will need to organize your own travel. You can use the Facebook event page or the Honesty Europe FB page to propose/seek travel companions, car pooling, etc.

We recommend travelling via land. If you choose to fly, we propose you compensate your CO2 emissions.

From mainland Europe, you can travel to Finland by train and ferry via Germany, Denmark and Sweden. Or can take the route through Poland and the Baltic states and take a 2-hour ferry from Tallinn, Estonia to Helsinki.

From the Helsinki main bus station (Kamppi, Helsinki): At bus stop numbers 25 and 26, busses bound for Turku and Salo depart about once an hour. Be sure to choose the bus which passes by Saukkola junction 21 (Lohja).

The trip from the Helsinki bus station to Saukkola junction 21 takes about 55 minutes.

From the Helsinki Airport: In front of Terminal 1, busses bound for Turku and Salo depart about once an hour. Be sure to choose the bus which passes by Saukkola junction 21 (Lohja).

The trip from the Helsinki airport to Saukkola junction 21 takes about 70 minutes.

The program

The Gathering will begin at 15:00 on 10 April with an opening ceremony and sharing. We will finish the Gathering at 17:00 on 13 April with a closing circle and ceremony.

The morning sessions will include conscious movement / yoga and meditation. Then, for the rest of the day, various sessions will be available for attendees to choose from. The exact timetable will be agreed upon and announced on the spot. The center’s sauna will be available in the evening for an additional fee.

All lodging will be in shared 2-5 person rooms.

If you have a preference of whom you wish to share your room with, please inform us of that preference via email.

Who are the trainers?

Tuulia Syvänen is the certified Radical Honesty trainer who has led the most RH workshops in Europe, more than 70 by now. She also does 1:1 and couples coaching. For two decades, she held leadership positions at international, non-profit organizations that are concerned with social and environmental justice issues. A native of Finland, she has lived in Germany, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Canada.

Having grown up in a dysfunctional family—where difficulties and negative feelings were often swept under the rug—Tuulia became passionate about self-expression and self-awareness, and learned the importance of setting one’s boundaries. Most important, she learned the power of honesty. Her life’s mission is to help create more love and connection between people through honest sharing.

Tuulia participated in her first Radical Honesty training in 2012 with the founder of Radical Honesty Dr. Brad Blanton and continued her training under the guidance of Dr. Blanton and RH Master Trainer Taber Shadburne. She has led more than 60 RH workshops in various European countries. She has also attained a four-year certification in the Human-to-Human Coaching and Therapy Program in Finland and is a certified leader of Dr. Fischer’s Rebuilding Divorce Seminars. She earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Tampere and has a 17-year-old son.

Pete Jordan

Pete Jordan is the only certified Radical Honesty trainer in the Benelux countries. He organizes and co-leads Radical Honesty workshops around Europe with his wife, Tuulia, as well as does 1:1 coaching.

Pete has changed his life for the better by committing to live honestly, expressing his resentments and appreciations in the moment and by asking for what he wants. A major breakthrough for him was to have honest talks with his ex-wife and four siblings. He has broken the traditions of his childhood’s family and began to talk about things he was afraid of and embarrassed about and what he didn't like in his childhood.

Pete has great listening skills and he is keen on developing and learning every day. His vision is to support others to live happier, freer lives. Born and raised in San Francisco, Pete has lived in Amsterdam for almost two decades and still makes himself happy each day he wakes up in that city. A writer by profession, Pete has a passion for cycling and has contributed his writing and photographs to several Dutch cycling publications for more than a decade. He is in the midst of following a three-year training to become a Somatic Experiencing practitioner. When he is not organizing or attending Radical Honesty workshops or spending time with his teenaged son, he can be found meandering around Amsterdam on his bike. (And he feels some tightness in his stomach now as he writes this stuff about himself in the third person.)

Anna Haas

I’m a Radical Honesty Trainer and Somatic Coach from Berlin. I came across Radical Honesty in 2016, did the Trainers Training in June 2018 and am a certified Trainer since November 2019.

Besides that I have a masters degree related to environmental/sustainability topics and many years of working experience in the film and cartoon industry. By adding this I imagine I want you to see me as a diverse person and possibly also find more ways to relate to me ;)

In workshops and coaching sessions, I accompany people into noticing and being with all that is, showing themselves as they are, asking for what they want, and composting their unresolved business from the past so they can grow something new out of it.

I used to think that I have to somehow give myself up to be able to create connection. In contact with other people I adapted to them. I did it to such an extent that when I happened to be around two or more people who I would normally meet alone, I didn’t know who I was anymore or how to act.

And I used to spend a lot of energy on trying to avoid situations in which I or someone else could eventually feel embarrassed and by that stopped myself from a lot of things I would have actually liked to do.

I’m happy and excited to be more and more open and outspoken about what’s really going on with me, to ask for what I want and to allow and experience all that arises when I do so. I enjoy the intensity of my sensations and keep being amazed how fast they ebb away when I don’t resist them. Practicing Radical Honesty I’m feeling more alive and much more in touch with myself as well as with others. And I love to inspire people to join me on this journey!
