#Homelesshack is a 2-day event for anyone interested in helping reduce homelessness in London and beyond.
This event is hosted by <A HREF="https://www.nwspk.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Newspeak House</A>, the community space for political technologists.
 
<H2>What it's about</H2>
More than 8,000 people slept rough in London last year, <A HREF="http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/homeless-def-numbers.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">according to Crisis</A>. That number has doubled since 2010.
It's not only about rough sleeping though - more than 100,000 people each year apply to UK local councils for help with homelessness, and that number is increasing by more than 10% a year.
 
<H2>How it will work</H2>
Experts from charities, service providers and government will come together with service designers, policy professionals, data analysts, developers, researchers and people with lived experience to see if we can create some useful things to help.
There will be people who know what's needed, people who know what data is available and where to find it, and people who can take on the ideas and prototypes from the event and find ways to make them happen.
 
<H2>Schedule</H2>
<H3>Friday</H3>
10:00 to 11:00: presentations from experts who work on homelessness in London to help hackers understand what's needed
11:30 to 17:00: <A HREF="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">open space style event</A> for everyone to talk about their ideas for ways to help
17:00 to 23:59: form self-organising teams and get to work
<H3>Saturday</H3>
09:00 to 16:00: work in self-organising teams to design solutions and build working prototypes
16:00 - show and tell
17:00 - finish
 
<H2>Everyone with energy and ideas is welcome</H2>
This will be an inclusive, open and collaborative event. 
#Homelesshack is not only for people with special technical skills - come along if you have ideas, energy and any relevant skills or knowledge to offer. 
Please don't worry if it's your first time at an event like this - everyone is welcome and there will be plenty of help and support on offer.
