HOME MAINTENANCE COURSE: Level II

7 Classes 5:30-8:30pm - 21 Hours Total

SCHEDULE

Fall 2025: October 30-December 11, 2024

Class Size: Limited to 15

All classes for all sessions take place Wednesdays 5:30-8:30pm, except as indicated below:

  • Monday, Nov. 5
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12
  • Wedneday, Nov. 19
  • Tuesday, Nov. 25
  • Wednesday, Dec. 3
  • Wednesday, Dec. 10

FEE

$175. Please only pay for the class on 10/30, not the other dates. Your payment will include all 7 classes. You do not need to register for each class. All classes are on Wednesday, except for two.

PRE-REQUISITES

Must be 18 years or older

MATERIALS

Tools to be used and practice supplies will be furnished by the instructor.

COURSE SYLLABUS

NOTE: Course topics listed below are tentative. Proposed topics will be announced at the first class. We reserve the right to change the content of the course at any time.

Plumbing & Electrical

Week #1 Planning your project, tool practice and safety session1. Selecting the proper materials and tools for the job.2. Estimating the amount of materials needed. Reducing waste.3. Evaluating your task. Do I need a contractor?4. Getting the most for your budget.5. Soliciting bids and working with contractors.6. Understanding the use of common hand tools and measuring devices.7. The safe use of power, cutting, and boring tools.

Week #2 Plumbing (Part 1)1. Replacing faucet and / or sink drains.2. Repairing leaks from faucets, toilets, and other minor repairs.3. Installation of new sinks, faucets, and countertops.

Week #3 Plumbing (Part 2)1. Installation of toilets.2. Repairing and replacing defective water supply lines.3. Working with pipe connections, copper, and PVC.

Week #4 Doors and Repairs1. Installation of doors.2. Installation of door handles and locks.3. Installation of door accessories, such as viewers, mail slots, etc.

Week #5 Electrical (Part 1)1. Understanding the workings of your electrical system.2. Understanding the difference between 220v and 110v.3. Replacing light fixtures.

Week #6 Electrical (Part 2)1. Replacing defective switches, outlets, and fixtures.2. Understanding the workings of your breaker panel.3. Providing wiring for new ceiling fixtures, switches, and outlets.

Week #7 Carpentry Tidbits1. Stair Repair 2. Molding Installation


Certificate of Completion

You will receive a Certificate of Completion provided you attend at least 4 classes (not including the Orientation).

NOTE: This course is not designed for job readiness.
