About Kyle Wright

On the Field:

Kyle Wright is one of the top young pitchers in Major League Baseball. The fifth overall draft pick out of Vanderbilt in 2017 by the Atlanta Braves, Kyle reached the majors by 2018. He pitched twice in the 2021 World Series, helping the Braves defeat the Houston Astros. In 2022, Kyle led Major League Baseball with 21 wins. Before becoming an All-American at Vanderbilt, Kyle played high school ball for his father, Roger, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Background on Mental Health:

Unfortunately, Kyle has two personal connections to suicide and experienced loss at an early age when his college teammate Donny Everett drowned at the age of 19. As an athlete, Kyle manages ups and downs from a long baseball season and relies on a variety of confidants to balance the daily mental pressures. Wright wants to spread the message that it’s okay to ask for help and talk about your feelings, especially negative ones, with trusted individuals- as he still navigates those conversations to this day. Kyle & Shelby Wright are passionate about furthering Summit Counseling Center’s mission and reducing the stigma of mental health among teens and adults.
