About this event

This workshop provided by Ballroom We Care and Miasha Forbes will provide a brief synopsis of House and Ball Culture in the United States. The institute will consist of the following:

1. A brief overview of the history of the ballroom scene, including its origins, evolution, and significance to the black LGBTQ experience.

2. Ballroom as a coping mechanism: How the ballroom community addresses HIV/AIDS, other health disparities and social injustices.

3. Question and Answer session.

This event is made possible through the generous support of LaGuardia Community College and the New York City Council through the offices of former Council Member Daniel Dromm (District 25) and former Speaker Corey Johnson with support from the CCNY Colin Powell School of Civic and Global Leadership, and CCNY Division of Student Affairs.
