About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Learn about Downtown West Dearborn's architecture and history with a tour led by Join Ian Tomashik of Preservation Dearborn, and Mason Christensen, of the Dearborn Historical Museum. Originally the center of the old village of Dearborn, this area is home to some of the oldest buildings in the area. Along the tour, participants will learn about the early history of the city and how the community evolved over time. Toward Howard and Military streets, participants will learn how a number of successful and failed urban renewal projects radically reshaped the look of the downtown. On the way back, certain historic homes north of the Downtown will be discussed.

Items to note about the tour:

All guests should be prepared to walk, sometimes on uneven surfaces, for about an hour and a half.

If it looks like it will be stormy or too hot, we will reschedule and let you know ahead of time. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour.

Restroom facilities may be unavailable along the tour route. We will not be entering any buildings as part of the tour, but the Commandant's Quarters will be open before and after the tour.
